What to go for ?
As surfing has become so big as has the choice on the market. With different construction methods and materials it all gets a bit confused. The key is to try out any board you can get your hands on. We all have our own style of surfing so what’s good for one surfer may not work for the next. Plus we all surf different waves so you need a board that suits your waves. Here at Escape we have a mix of trial boards we hire and no charge if you buy a board. Its a system that helps sales and we know that the surfer goes off with the right board. So if your looking to make a change in your surfing or are just keen to know how a performance quad or the epoxy nose rider goes then pop in and give one a try. Check the Design/Styles page for some info on shapes. Also the board guide will help you in the right direction.
Custom or off the rack ?
Well a board off the rack is immediate its right there and your in the water an hour latter. Do also work out a bit cheaper ,you can buy online or from the factory or from retailers. You have a look through pick your model then see what sprays are in stock job done. Or you go the custom route which means you have the choice of all specs ,construction method ,epoxy/polyester ,weights ,fin set up and of course the spray job. Also you can come to the factory and have a chat with the guy who will actually be making your board so you can give them an insight into how you surf and what you need from your new board. The bit that usually trips people up is the spray as its so endless what you can do. We can even laminate images on to your board so if you have an image on your computer you like its all possible. Check out the proses on the Sprays page and get some idea on prices on the Customs page.
Why Escape Surfboards ?
Well for a start we don’t hold with the snobbery in surfing we will make anything for anyone at any level of there surfing. We are also forward thinking and will use any system or materials to improve the board for you. We have a price range to suit all pockets and as a small business we look after are customers as we rely on repeat trade. So we look after people and they come back every one is happy. All of us surf and have a real tie to the sea and appreciate what surfing and a new board means to a surfer.
Trade ins/Second hand boards.
We do take trade ins on the sale of a new board. We work out the price we will sell your old board for then minus 17.5% for the tax man and that’s the price you get for your board. Because of the tax you would get a better price on a private sale. So with the trade ins and the odd sponsored rider giving an old board back when we make them new ones (very rare they tend to forget to bring them back) we do have a range of second hand boards. I try to put them on the Sale page but they come and go quite quickly.
To the dedicated surfer the mere touch, feel or even smell of a surfboard evokes senses of excitement, and anticipation. Memories of good sessions, cracking waves, friends, and adventure rush to the front of the cerebrum.
You automatically hold the board up in front of you check out the plan shape, run your cupped hands up and down the rail. Pinch the nose to check out the thickness, stroke your palms and figure tips across the bottom checking out the ‘v’, the concaves, the contours of the planning surface. Finally you put the board on its edge, look at the rocker curve, and see how the volume is positioned? Is this a nice flowing piece of foam? Does it have good foil shape? All this you do in a trance like state as you try to imagine yourself paddling this one out spinning round and catching a wave. Would it work for me? Can I see myself on this thing looking down the line? Will those rails and fins hold in as I jam into that wall on my favourite perfect wave, in the sunshine with my mates hooting?
You snap out of your trance with a few words like’ yeah mate nice one’ because no matter that the board is too fat, thin, or just plain ugly your pretty sure that you would do something on it on that ‘magical day’.
We at Escape Surfboards know that feeling, we do it all day. We are professional surfboard feelers, we’ve been doing it for a long time, and we have that autonomy with surfboards. We spend our none working time surfing all over Cornwall and Europe. If it’s just a ‘quicky’, then good old Polzeath our spot only 5 minutes from the factory.
We hope that you will appreciate our attention to detail, smooth lines and crisp edges. This has come about because the time we have passed on and around surfboards.
To some, colour is an important part of their experience, they like to see shapes and designs painted, sprayed, and drawn on their board. We have a huge selection of different graphic ideas which can be used or changed. You may have your own ideas for colour and pattern; we will always be able to apply these to your custom surfboard.
